Thanks to all for Easter Academy!

Thanks to everyone who came to Easter Academy this year. We had a brilliant week. It was all over so quickly. There weren't any official snaps take this year, but you can see the ones from Easter 2009 on Flickr.

We had loads of new faces, including folk who don't come to our regular weekly classes. So there's no need to worry about coming on your own for the first time. We have loads of new starts. It's hard to believe, as by the end of the first day it's like you've known everyone for ages!

The holiday fun kicks off again in July when we offer a range of 1 and 2 week courses for 4-15 year olds. Summer Academy 2010 promises loads more fun.

Family Day Fun!

On Saturday 12th December the Citizens Theatre held its first ever Family Day to accompany the Christmas production of Cinderella.

A number of family groups attended and it was a really fun afternoon. The families were given the opportunity to see some behind the scenes props and costumes from previous Citz productions. They also saw Jason Southgate's original designs for Cinderella and the set model box that the technical crew worked from when creating the set.

We also had lots of fun playing some games, doing some drama and making masks for the Prince's Ball. Everyone got stuck in and it was lovely to see family groups working together on tasks, having a great time.

We'll definitely be doing more of these events, so watch this space for details about the next one...

Weekly drama classes recommence this weekend

Our Kids @ Citz and Teenagers @ Citz drama classes for 4-15 year olds recommence this weekend. During term time the theatre buzzes with nearly 300 children and young people along with their families.

If you haven't re-booked yet, now's the time to do it. There are still spaces available in a number of our 16 different classes. We always welcome new faces, so if you've not been before and fancy some weekly drama fun call the box office on 0141 429 0022.

Parents are welcome to chill out in the foyer, whilst waiting for their offspring. Our car park is free and with coffee, tea, weekend papers and wifi all availble, it's the perfect spot to relax.

Aidan Arrives!

Well, what a week it's been for the Smith family! Our new bundle of joy arrived in a suitably dramatic fashion on Saturday 29th November. He was 6lb 15oz and took it all in his stride.

After much thought we've decided to name him Aidan Campbell Smith.

We think he's the cutest baby in the world - but we're probably a bit biased! Have a look and see for yourself.

P.S. (We already have his place in kids@citz reserved for 4 years time!)

Kids@citz

Kids@citz 'sharings' were brilliant!! The theatre was taken over by kids of all ages. The foyer was a hub of activity. On a Saturday and Sunday ownership of this building is well and truly that of the 4 - 15 yr old and quite right! Best news is that all classes for next term are all selling fast, - that's proof of the pudding!! KB

New classes added - Weekly Drama Classes

The autumn season of weekend drama classes for children and young people start at the Citizens Theatre on 13 September 2008. We are offering a massive 17 classes to choose from. Two extra classes have just been added to cope with demand. These are for 6-8s and 9-12s.

Our 4-5s have only 1 space left (you gotta be quick!), but we still have spaces left for all other age groups: 6-8s, 9-12s and 13-15s. Check out our website to see which classes are waiting list only and which are still available.

Summer Academy Invasion!

It is now the 4th week of our first ever Summer Academy at the Citizens' Theatre and the place is swarming with young people!

We have two groups of 6-8 year olds, a group of 9-12 year olds and a group of 13-18 year olds attending this week. It really is lovely to see the building so busy and full of activity.

My 6-8 years group are delightful to work with. We have been having lots of fun with our pirate theme. The group have met some colourful characters such as a scary shark named Sebastian, a wise Sea King and a pirate called Peter who has lost his ship! We have also been creating our own scenery for the performance this Saturday. It is a collage of a pirate ship with a giant skull and crossbones on the sail.

Parents, friends and family members will be attending the final performances this Saturday and then it will be all over... until next year!

Teenagers @ Citz

Regular Teenagers @ Citz (drama class) attenders, Andrew and Rebecca McCartan were interviewed by our Drama Class Supervisor Yvonne:

What has been your experience of Teenagers @ Citz?

I've been to Teenagers @ Citz for 3 terms, and each term has been great. Each time I’ve made new friends and also I've learned a lot about acting and performing. I've really enjoyed going every week as it is fun and it's good experience for acting. (Rebecca)

Teenagers @ Citz has been great fun and has been a good experience of being able to work with other people and create dramas. It's a really good way to meet new people and have a laugh each week. The work that we do each week is fun and interesting and it was good to be involved in such a friendly group. (Andrew)

Tutor Clare McGarry with Rebecca, Andrew and other Teenagers @ Citz participants.

Do you enjoy the sharings?

Yes, I think the sharings are a great way to show family and friends what we can do. I preferred making up a performance and showing that, rather than showing a "work in progress". Although both ways are good as they show what we have been doing each week. I think it is a really good way to end the term as it gives you something to look forward to at the end. Also I liked getting the chance to perform in the Circle theatre. (Rebecca)

The sharings at the end of the term was really exciting. It's great to be able to show the dramas that you have been doing to an audience and your parents, and find out other peoples reactions to what you do. Performing in the Circle studio is also a great experience as it is an amazing place to act in. (Andrew)

What do you think of the Citz?

I think the Citz is a great place to start acting, as it is such a well known theatre. It has lots of projects to offer, like Teenagers @ Citz and the Young Co. The staff are always helpful and friendly which creates a friendly atmosphere when you walk in. The rehearsal rooms for the Circle and Stalls Studios were a good place to have the classes as if lets us see what it is like backstage. (Rebecca)

The Citz is a great place to go to and it is good to be able to take classes in such a well-known theatre. I think the Citz is a fantastic theatre and the rehearsal rooms where the classes take place are really big which is good for doing drama. (Andrew)

What do you think of the tutors?

All the tutors that I have worked with have been awesome! They are all really friendly, outgoing and up for a laugh. Which was great as it made it more interesting and fun learning different things about acting. One of the best things about them is they would take part in the activities as well! They made the classes more enjoyable as they were just like one of us. (Rebecca)

I really enjoyed working with the tutors that took the class. They were very friendly and funny and they would always give us exiting stuff to take part in. The best thing about them was that they would also take part in the activities themselves! They were so energetic and fun, and the classes wouldn't have been the same without them. (Andrew)

You can enquire now about places for the autumn term 2008. Click Weekly Drama Classes to find out more.

If you can't wait that long - join us for the Citizens Summer Academy. The 13+ course runs from 14-26 July. Call 0141 429 0022 now to grab the last few places!

Easter Academy Success

Our first ever Citizens' Easter Academy has just ended!

Young people aged 6-8 and 9-12 years enjoyed a jam-packed week of drama and arts & crafts activities, with a final performance for parents and friends.

The 6-8 year group performed 'The Dragon that Exploded!' in the Circle Studio. It was a tale about an evil dragon who terrorised a community. Good finally conquered evil, with the dragon meeting a gruesome end!

The 9-12 year group performed in 'The Rise of the Overlord'. The group developed this play about an evil Overlord who was affecting humans using mind control. The humans created an army to put an end to the Overlord's reign of terror.

No Easter bunnies or eggs then...!

The week was a great success and there are some fabulous photos for you to look at here.

If you fancy taking part in our Citizens' Summer Academy check out our website for more info.

Another Term Over

Well, that's another term of our weekly drama classes over. This weekend was a flurry of excitement as 16 different groups of young people showcased their talents for family and friends. It was an overwhelming success and everyone left the Citz at the end of the day with smiles on their faces to enjoy a well-earned few weeks off.

Our drama classes have been running for 4 terms now and we have over 200 young people aged between 4-15 years attending each weekend. On the last day of each term we always invite parents and relatives in to the theatre to see some of the work created by the participants.

This term was extra special because the young people were able to perform in the theatre's studio spaces, which are also used for professional productions. The lighting, sound and atmosphere of the Stalls and Circle Studios proved to be a big hit with the young people, who thoroughly enjoyed their experience.

We now have a break before the new term starts. The first weekend back is 26th/27th April. More information about our drama classes can be found by clicking here.

Nearing the end of term...

This is an exciting weekend for Kids @ Citz. Given that we are nearly at the end of term, this weekend will see the classes sharing the work that they have been creating over the term. Parents and friends are coming along to watch some sessions. Other classes are actually performing short plays. Angela and Howie are working hard transforming the rehearsal room.

Good luck to everyone involved!
