The First Sunday

Just checking in to update you all on yesterdays Kids@Citz classes. The atmosphere in the theatre was fab yesterday with lots of people milling about in the foyer taking advantage of the coffee bar, newspapers and story corner. The classes that I am involved with on a Sunday (9-10s and 11-12s) are in the Stalls Rehearsal Room, which is all the way up the stairs at the back of the building (my legs are a little sore today from climbing the stairs so many times!!!).

It was great to see so many new faces joining us and also good to welcome back some that had been coming on a Saturday last term. In all three of my classes yesterday we worked to pretty much the same plan, learning some games and trying out some drama exercises. Having said that each class took completely different directions and we ended up in completely different places with each class.

The first class decided that they are happy to just keep trying out different things for the next few weeks before we decide what our main goal for the term is. The second class, on the other hand, came to the agreement that they would like to spend half of the session each week playing games and trying out different things and the other half of the session working towards their sharing that will take place on the last week of term. It is looking, at the moment, like this sharing piece will be a variety show with several different skits and scenes.

The last class of the day decided that they want to spend as much time as possible working on devising a piece for their sharing and asked that we spend 20 mins at the start warming-up before knuckling down to the business of devising.

So, it's going to be a very varied Sunday for myself and Jo (who is the assistant in these classes) and I think I speak for both of us when I say we're looking forward to a great term!
