YOUNG Co. and the Surgeons

Quick update on the actions of YOUNG Co. It's been a pretty busy couple of weeks for the company, including a trip out east to Edinburgh. The Summer School is long gone now but it was a great week, with a variety practitioners dropping in to lead sessions. With Louise we exercised our voice, with Elly we explored character, our designer brought in the set model (for The Doctor and The Devils) and Nigel introduced his music which inspired an amusing drunken piece of choreography from Linda. Auditions were held 0n the Thursday afternoon, which raised the stakes...casting was always going to be a tough call. I'm so relieved it's all sorted...let's get on with rehearsals now, we are so short of sessions.

The Monday after the Summer School YOUNG Co. went on a trip to the Surgeons Hall Museum in Edinburgh. This was fascinating , with valuable and entertaining information both from our official guide and then Ron, a museum attendant, who told stories of Burke and Hare like he was actually there. I would strongly recommend a visit but a word of warning this experience is not for the faint hearted (there are lots of gruesome things to see).

On the way back to the station we encountered the Royal Mile at festival time, which everyone loved, prompting a spontaneous game of 'Whoosh' with a random actor handing out leaflets for his show. We also disappeared down a few lanes off the Royal Mile to capture a feel for old Edinburgh and the world the characters (of The Doctor and The Devils) inhabited. We returned tired but better informed, ready to start work.
